Seven Photographs, September 2019
Artist Statement
My stark prints are achieved through hand-crafted costumes, collage and exploring the discord between self and other. I escape the parameters of a rule-bound reality through a surreal lens addressing internal conflicts of isolation, depression, identity, and degeneration.
Garrett DeBell is a member of the New Orleans Community Printshop and Darkroom. He had his first solo show "Nobdody's Shelter" in April 2018, was featured in "Politico Pop Up 3", curated the joint show "Fixer/Downer" at the Severio Gallery and presented in "New Surroundings" at 912 Pietra for PhotoNOLA 2018.
His practice involves calculated arbitrary techniques for alternative processing of 35mm film and exerts the camera as a catalyst for traversing a non representational world.
